Wizard Stardew Valley | Why His Magic Costs a Million Gold

Magnus Rasmodius, whom you may know as Mr. Wizard, is a non-marriageable character of Stardew Valley who lives in Wizard Tower on the southwest side of Pelican Town in Cindersap Forest. This tower remains open from 6 AM to 11 PM, so you can meet him there during this time. However, if you want to talk to him after 11 PM, there is a secret passage (warp spot) from the Witch’s Hut to this tower. Use that to reach there!

Wizard Stardew Valley may go to the festivals otherwise, you can find him only in the Wizard’s Tower where he sells magic items. Wizard also tells the player about Pelican Town’s Secrets. His Birthday is on Winter 17.

Wizard Stardew Valley

Like I said, The Wizard mostly stays inside his tower and only steps out during certain festivals. You can visit him between 6 AM and 11 PM. If you’ve unlocked the Witch’s Hut, you can use the warp spot to reach him even after that. Unlike other villagers, he never visits the Beach Resort on Ginger Island.

He reads books, brews potions, meditates, and studies magical objects. His routine changes a little each day. On rainy days, he follows a similar schedule with minor changes. After Year 3, he starts training Morgan, his apprentice, a few days a week. He teaches magic, potion-making, and meditation.

If you marry the Wizard (known as Magnus in mods), he stays at the farm on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. But after Morgan arrives, he adjusts his schedule to train them more. Later, he also starts meeting Camilla on Mondays. His life is all about magic, learning, and teaching.

All Universal Loves, Book of Mysteries, Purple Mushroom, Solar Essence, Stardrop Tea, Super Cucumber, Void Essence

“Ahh, this is imbued with potent arcane energies. It’s very useful for my studies. Thank you!”

All Universal Likes, All Geode Minerals, All Trinkets, Iridium Bar, Quartz

“Many thanks. This item has some very interesting properties.”

All Universal Neutrals (except Book of Mysteries), All Fruit (except Fruit Tree Fruit & Salmonberry)

“Thank you, this will prove useful, I think.”

All Universal Dislikes (except Geode Minerals, Iridium Bar, Solar Essence, Super Cucumber, Trinkets, & Void Essence), All Eggs*, All Milk, Chanterelle, Common Mushroom, Daffodil, Dandelion, Ginger, Hazelnut, Holly, Leek, Magma Cap, Morel, Salmonberry, Slime, Snow Yam, Wild Horseradish, Winter Root

“This?… I suppose I’ll cast it into the flames and see what happens.”

All Universal Hates (except Slime)

“Ughh… These are utterly mundane. Please refrain from bothering me with this in the future.”

On Winter 17, the Wizard’s birthday, gifts have 8× the usual effect. If he loves or likes the gift, he’s impressed and thankful. If it’s a neutral gift, he just says thanks. But if he dislikes or hates it, he’ll be disappointed and wonder if you’re playing a joke on him.

The Wizard enjoys watching Mysterium but isn’t a fan of most other movies, including It Howls in the Rain, Journey of the Prairie King: The Motion Picture, and The Brave Little Sapling. When it comes to snacks, he loves Black Licorice, Star Cookie, and Stardrop Sorbet, while he likes treats like Cotton Candy, Ice Cream Sandwich, and Rock Candy. However, he isn’t too fond of anything else.

The Wizard often needs help with magical tasks, and he’ll send letters requesting specific items or assistance. Some of these quests are one-time events, while others appear on the Help Wanted board outside Pierre’s General Store. If you complete them, you’ll get gold and friendship points.

  1. Meet the Wizard: After reading the golden scroll in the Community Center, the Wizard invites you to his tower, where he gives you a potion to understand the Junimo language.
  2. A Dark Reagent: On Winter 12, he asks for a Void Essence for his magic. Reward: 1,000g and 1 friendship heart.
  3. Staff of Power: On Winter 5, Year 2, he requests an Iridium Bar for crafting. Reward: 5,000g and 1 friendship heart.
  4. Dark Talisman: After restoring the Community Center (or completing Joja upgrades), a cutscene at the Railroad starts this quest. The Wizard needs a Dark Talisman, which can be found in the Mutant Bug Lair after speaking to Krobus. Completing this quest unlocks Goblin Problem.
  5. Goblin Problem: Inside the Witch’s Swamp, a goblin guard blocks access to the Witch’s Hut. Give him Void Mayonnaise to pass and retrieve the Magic Ink for the Wizard. This unlocks magical farm buildings and the Dark Shrines inside the Witch’s Hut.
  6. A Curious Substance: A special order where the Wizard asks for Ectoplasm (dropped by Ghosts). Reward: 2,500g and the Mini-Obelisk recipe.
  7. Prismatic Jelly: Another special order where he requests Prismatic Jelly (dropped by Prismatic Slimes). Reward: 5,000g and the Monster Musk recipe.
  8. The Pirate’s Wife: A Ginger Island quest where the Wizard must be given an Arctic Shard as part of the storyline.
  9. Monster-Slaying Requests: Occasionally, the Wizard posts a request on the Help Wanted board to slay monsters in the Mines, rewarding gold based on the monster type.
  10. Item Delivery Requests: The Wizard may also ask for random magical ingredients in return for gold and friendship points.

The Wizard in Stardew Valley is a very mysterious character. He has a daughter living somewhere in Pelican Town, but he never says who she is. This is one of the reasons he stays away from the town. The Wizard isn’t on good terms with his wife, the Witch, and some think Abigail might be his daughter, but it’s never confirmed.

The Wizard is one of the few people who is friends with Linus, another character who lives alone. Both of them prefer to stay away from the rest of the town, which is why they might have formed a bond over time. Even though the Wizard doesn’t attend every festival, there is hidden dialogue in the game that shows what he would say if he were there. This makes fans believe he’s more involved in the town’s mysteries than it seems.

The Wizard knows many languages, including the Juminos’ language, which shows he has learned a lot about different cultures. He also seems to be aware of secret societies and creatures, like the merfolk and the Juminos. Plus, he knows about the monsters in the mines, suggesting he has connections to the magical world outside Pelican Town.

The Wizard in Stardew Valley is probably over 100 years old. His magic and past make him seem really old!

The Wizard doesn’t visit Ginger Island because he likes staying alone in his tower and focuses on magic, not fun. He might also avoid his ex-wife, the Witch, who’s tied to magical places.

I hope you now know everything about Wizard in Stardew Valley. Thanks for reading!
